As the crow flies
As The Crow Flies is a short film project- A coming of age story about a young girl’s spiritual awakening and the Mojave desert. It was intended as a Western, filmed from a female perspective.
I wrote a screenplay incorporating mystical desert scenes among native American land art. Water was to be a recurring motive, subtle and mystical. There were going to be horses, a rattlesnake and- of course a crow!
What can I say, my dear friend Wyvonia Riddle, the Choctaw/Cherokee elder featured here passed away in the process, leaving me heartbroken and rather lost. Her character played an integral role, so I reckon this project will remain forever unfinished.
What you see is basically a labor of love, a reminder what could have been. It took me some time to patch up the bits and pieces, bringing up lots of bittersweet memories.
Still, seeing Wyvonia immortalised and listening to Zelly performing my favourite song by the Can “She Brings The Rain” , in addition to Jonathan Wilson’s mind blowing ” Desert Raven”, truly makes my heart sing.
I hope you will enjoy it!
